REDUCE MATERNAL AND INFANT MORTALITY

Almost all maternal deaths (99%) occur in developing countries, with more than half in sub-Saharan Africa and almost a third in South Asia. More than half of maternal deaths occur in unstable regions plunged into humanitarian crises.

The maternal mortality ratio in developing countries was 239 per 100,000 births in 2015, compared to 12 per 100,000 in developed countries.

Women die from complications during or after pregnancy or childbirth. All women should have access to antenatal care during pregnancy, have the assistance of trained personnel during childbirth, and receive care and support in the weeks following childbirth.
