“We (Bill & Melinda Gates) have read a lot and have talked to a lot of people to understand how we get trapped in poverty. One of the points that became clear to us quite quickly is that it is impossible to break the cycle of poverty when you are not in good health”

FACTS ON THE STATUS OF HEALTH IN AFRICA

Under-medicalization of Africa and in particular of sub-Saharan Africa

Impossibility for many years yet for the Sub-Saharan states to access a modern technical platform given the significant financial and human investments required

Poor quality of the technical facilities of hospitals due to lack of resources

M.D. trained in the best universities in the North and unable to practice their art because of the deficiencies of the health system (Brain drain).

EDUCATION

Children in Africa are five times less likely to acquire basic skills than children in the rest of the world.

Beyond socio-economic challenges, the limited availability of good quality textbooks, the absence of adequate support measures for teachers, the inadequate nature of teacher training and the provision of teaching guides are key factors that have led to poor learning outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.

UNESCO, 2022

Half of the children around the world who receive no education are African.

”Education is truly the source of human development and the development of a country”

Esther DUFLO, Nobel Prize in Economics (2019)
